Combining the artistic talents of the art collective Circus Kinetica, who specialise in creating beauty from found objects with Healthy Planet who organise community initiatives to provide free books and utilise vacant premises, a new art emporium was born.  Situated in the centre of Brighton by the Clock Tower and opposite Boots, the Knowledge is a large vacant shop premises that has been turned into a pop-up shop while it is left otherwise un-used.  Brought back to life with a minimalist redec, the space is now full of fantastical creations and designs in pictures, leatherwork, jewellery and other objects all hand-crafted by the small group of artists, known as Circus Kinetica.

Free Books in Brighton
At the back of the store is the "Books for Free" section, where rows of rescued and unwanted books destined for landfill or pulping are waiting to be read, swapped and shared.  Masterminded by Healthy Planet, Books for Free redistribute books via 32 volunteer run BFF centres located on high streets nationwide.  As a result of which they have contributed to saving over 380 tonnes of books from landfill and pulping each year.  It is estimated that pulping just one tonne of books equates to nearly 7,000 kwh energy (enough to power a TV for 24 years).  Books for Free has grown at a fantastic rate since it started in 2010, rescuing more than 2.5 million books from going to waste.
If you have large quantities of books to dispose of and would like them to pick up the books, or are a book collector / distributor / publisher / business with an excess books or an organisation in need of books, or would be interested in using one of their centres for an event, activity, meeting, workshop then click on Healthy Planet to find out how.
